Nice to have someone articulate this, all execs should be required to watch this TED talk on the science of motivation:

    Excellent talk - he has also written a rather inspirational book about the power of right-brain thinking.
    Incidentally this page also links to some nice talks by Dan Ariely which are well worth watching also. (He has also written an interesting looking book called Predictably Irrational that I have on my shelf at home and hope to read just as soon as I have the time!)
